Music Notes

"BE STILL AND KNOW THAT I AM GOD"

So often in this busy world, where so many things call for our attention, it is easy to get caught up in the fray and, perhaps even lose our own sense of self. In so doing, we lose our connection also with one an-other and with God. As we find ourselves this summer looking at the potential of severe weather patterns and unknown repercussions of the oil that continues to pour into the Gulf, threatening loss of our waters, nature and even our lives, it seems to me to be very important to find ways to stay connected with our Source of Life – with God.

Both Scriptures and Music (which is always based upon scriptures) can serve as messages from God, reminding us from whence our strength and life comes. Scriptures can be challenging and they can also be comforting. In some cases they can be both at the same time. However, in all cases, we have to take the time to make this connection with God – to open ourselves to be able to hear God speak to us – to answer us. We have to make time to be Present with the Presence of God – who wants nothing less than our wholeness, our good stewardship of all of life and for us to enjoy the life, the people, the work, the families that have been given to us.

Remember Elijah – hiding in the cave when has became afraid for his life? He ran and hid away – he wanted to find God. He listened and he looked in the thunder and lightening – but God was not there. He looked in the winds and the rains – but God was not there. Finally, when he had given up desperately looking, he sat in his cave – feeling dejected and lost and giving his life over to God. It was only then that he heard the still small voice of God calling out to him. "Elijah, Elijah, where are you? Come out."

Now, while Elijah was searching in his franticness, in his fears, he was lost within himself – unable to hear the voice of God. So too, we can be too busy – too frantic – to be able to listen and hear God speaking to us through that quiet inner voice – a voice that is always with us.

Perhaps you can read quietly the full words of this Hymn. Each verse is only one line repeated three times. These words can help us connect in our own silence. I invite you to read these words and hear God speak to you.

1) "Be still and know that I am God. (repeat 3 x)

2) I am the Lord that healeth thee. "

3) My boundless mercy shall endure. "

4) I love you with a steadfast love. "

5) In Thee, O Lord, I put my trust." "

CHOIR NOTES

The CPC Choir is enjoying a well deserved vacation this Summer.

This Summer we are having a great turn-out for our Summer Family Choir each Sunday - which I think is great fun!

It is always helpful when we can have a few people volunteering to lead the singing for our worship services. Everyone interested in joining our summer "Singing Volunteers" are certainly welcome.

Just come at 9:30 to go over the opening music songs.

Also – I’m sure there is musical talent within many of you who worship with us and we would love to have you share your talent with us sometime this summer – and maybe also throughout the year.

SO

If you can sing - play an instrument – do a dramatic reading – dance

Please volunteer to share your "Graces" that God has given you.

We are all uplifted when someone shares their God-given gifts and graces.

There will be two Sundays with special outside groups coming in to sing for our Worship services.

The Simple Faith Trio on July 11th.

and

The Choraleers on July 25th.

ON ANOTHER NOTE

We are always looking for ways to do things better.

If you would like to see something done differently in our Worship Service or Music Ministry, please let us know SPECIFICALLY what you would like to see happen and SPECIFICALLY what you suggest.

Be prepared to give "how - to’s"

Your suggestions are always welcome.
