CHRISTIAN EDUCATION

Christ Presbyterian On Line devotionals have started. You can join in at any time.
To get started your morning email, send an email to Vonnie at CPC_DCF@tampabay.rr.com.
We need Sunday School teachers for Sundays, I am asking that the Youth take a role in helping the teachers
since we need two people per class. The volunteers we have had in the past are doing
other things in the church since they have been teaching Sunday School and Pioneer Club
for years.  We would like new people to step up and help.  Heather and Jay will be helping with the
youth but they work full time so,  there could be a change in their meeting day  Example (Sunday evening)
Thanks to all volunteers  who participated in VBS, the Children benefitted greatly from your work.

Chad Bender

  Stewardship Committee

“Stewardship”
(What’s it all about?)

First and foremost, Stewardship is what should be a part of every Christian’s annual budget. It’s all a matter of the
planned financial support which our church needs to operate each year in order to continue God’s work in Largo and
the surrounding communities. When we try and anticipate what our personal income versus expenditures will be for
the upcoming year- for home, food, utilities, amusements and such, it follows that if God has led us to worship here at
Christ Presbyterian Church, then He should be a part of our budget plan as well. As everyone knows, our nation is in a
financial decline for the time being. But, we need to ask ourselves “has that really had any impact on our day-today
living?” Of course, the answer may be “yes” for some but even so, we all planned ahead and have regularly supported
our church. This year, thanks to your regular giving, we have maintained a reasonably good balance of income versus
operating expenses and that’s a plus. However, much has been sacrificed in the process. Because we are at a stand still
in several areas, the net result has been lower operating expenses and loss of some services. We are sorely in need of
staff and must move ahead in 2010. God has willed that we accept the challenge and do so without reservation or
hesitation. Finally, as members, the decision to “tithe or pledge” (which is giving a specified amount on a regular basis)
is totally and completely ours to decide. The “how much and when” is what our church needs to know in order to
provide funds for all the operating and service expenses in the upcoming year.

Please bear in mind that having this information at hand over the next several months will allow the CPC Budget
and Finance Committee to plan for the future. Let’s do it again and give even more. Let’s begin now with prayers
that God’s people will be stewards and willing givers so we can grow back to our full potential. It’s in our hands.
All we need is faith in the Lord and of course faith in each other.

The Stewardship Committee; Fern Cleary, Al Gres, Rose Iacovelli, Willie Metzger, Sally Orwig,
Carl Sarine and Peter Ferrara

Lay Leaders needed

In January 1995, the Lay Pastor Ministry at Christ Presbyterian Church officially began. This Ministry
is continuing its mission today, even with setbacks and problems. Our base group continues to be
the original people who started back in 1995 plus those who have joined in our service since
then because of desire to serve or to replace those lay pastors who could no longer continue to serve.
We would like to recruit a few more good members who have a desire to become friends and
lay pastors to other church members. Can you make 5 phone calls a month? Can you send greeting cards on
special occasions? Can you pray for a fellow church member? Then YOU can be a LAY PASTOR.

We know that as Jesus went from village to village teaching and praying He saw the need to
multiply Himself…"Calling the Twelve to Him, He sent them out two by two and gave them authority..”
He did as much as one person could get done, but by calling, sending out, giving authority,
and instructing, He was getting twelve times as much done. We can relate this to the Lay Pastor Ministry
whereby members of our church pastor to each other. Will you receive the call and become a Lay Pastor
at Christ Presbyterian Church? At present there are church members who do not have a Lay Pastor.
We need to fill this gap. Please pray on this request and if you can help contact the church office

Presbyterian Women's Association  (PWA)

Presbyterian Women’s News

It is hard to believe, but the summer is almost over with and we are beginning another new year of
Presbyterian Women. On Saturday, August 29
th, both Circles had our annual Fall Retreat. We gathered
at 9:30 am for coffee and began the program at 10:00 am. Chef June prepared a delicious Lunch for us
as well! The Bible Study this year will be on the book of Joshua. Circle meetings begin in September,
the Morning Circle will meet at 10:00 am on September 8th
in Don Airey Hall. The Evening Circle will
 meet on September 14
th at 7:00 pm, also, in Don Airey Hall.

We will be having our Help Shops on September 10th in Zephyrhills and on September 12th in
St. Petersburg. If you are interested in attending either one, please see Sheryn Reeves. We are
beginning to collect stories and photos of the history of the Presbyterian Women of this church. We
will be meeting on the third Tuesday of each month. A committee will be set up to work on photo
albums and “stuff” that has already been assembled. But, we can always use more “stuff” and help.
Scrapbooking is not a required skill, but it could be useful. If you have items that can be used or would
like to help, please see Sheryn Reeves. Our Project Day will continue to be on the 4th Tuesday of the
 month.

This year we will be working on crafts for the Craft Show in March 2010. The proceeds from the
show will go towards the New Roof Fund. If you do any kind of craft, and would like to share with us,
please feel free to come on Tuesday. We will continue with the items for the VA, nursing homes and
Beth El. We will start around 10:00 am and continue until noon or you can bring a lunch and stay until
when ever! Quilting, knitting and crocheting will be offered. We would like to thank everyone who brough
t in School Supplies. This year we donated them to the Christian Outreach Center in Clearwater. Teresa
Pittman and Sheryn Reeves were able to deliver them. While at the Center, they had a tour of the facility
and learned more about their operation. It is a great place and they can always use our help. Our new
Moderator, Barbara Herbranson, is excited about the New Year and has some great ideas for us. We are
looking forward to another year of Bible Study, mission work and friendship. Please feel free to join us
 on any of our adventures!
